Yes there finger, I think I would prefer to have a full mitten so my index finger isn’t too cold. You loose a lot of dexterity with these. I think if you aren’t careful and add too many layer you loose blood circulation. I stopped because of ice built up and loosing sensation in index finger. Maybe if I prepare a bit more and take time to have proper circulation in hand I could last longer. When it’s cold like that its good to get out and kite 5 min then take a break and let go of bar to let blood flows , then rest of session you are toasty

@@JeromeLoman Do you think a lightweight merino wool base layer glove would fit under the lobster claw? I worry about dexterity with a mitten, especially if something goes wrong and you need to use a tiny line knife in an emergency. Maybe dexterity isn't all that different with a claw, mit, or thick 5-finger?

@@dropthatfone with 3 finger your can still setup your lines somehow else you probably have to remove gloves. Though like I said getting hand cold prior to kiting isn’t necessary bad thing as it force your hand to get used to it and once they relax and warm up you can keep them warm for a while. I think key is to stay dry and keep blood circulation I’m afraid that adding a layer will compress your finger too much causing blood to not circulate. Almost better off going to 3mm and have something that stays 100% dry. 5mm is only for extreme cas but if possible better to go 3mm. Google hunters reflex, talks a bit about what happens when hand get cold and warm back up. For sure security isn’t great. If hands are too cold you won’t be able to pull quick release or wrap lines... you won’t even feel if your hand is in contact with your gear, so for these sessions better to stay in safe spot or stops as soon as you don’t feel your hand. But if they do get wait you will loose sensation right away so better to quick release early if needed, but I would kite conservative in those situations and stay dry

@@dropthatfonebest is that you try the gloves and fit them perfectly, if it’s too tight blood won’t circulate. Checkout the Xcel Drylock gloves, I think they are better than the NP claw

@@JeromeLoman In colder temps I wear O'NEILL PSYCHO 5MM GLOVES. Below 35F, fingers start to go numb.

My friend modified it, any 5 line can be converted to 4 line typically 5th line had a loop near split just need to remove extension and instead put one of the front line through the safety hole in one of the front line. You can watch star kite, ozone video as they have bars that can convert from one to the next.

I think will help for sure to have single safety line. But in some case the line could get stuck too. On my five line kite a line got stuck on bar end once ... best is to know how to use both safety when necessary. My issue with monolith bar is that when you release the kite doesn’t flag and still has a lot of power when sitting in relaunch position... so not great in some situation

@@JeromeLoman Yes I've had that too where a line wraps around the bar end :-/ Its a shame because I love my flying my Bandit with Monolith bar. It's a really clean simple bar and have used it loads without any issues except these 2 scary death loops. Anyway I've bought a used Linx bar now so hopefully there won't be any more deathloops! Hi, yeah I have self rescued many times on bandit 9 and 12m, honestly doesn’t work great on 2 lines, the small size work better than 12 but still issues on 9. You could probably just upgrade the bar to the new bandit bar which has one safety. Depends how kite hits the water when you release if lucky it will fall in correct position on the lee ward edge. Else if it falls on the side the water and bridle will hold the kite semi powered just like in relaunch position. A few tug from safety line might make it fall over but it’s not reliable. At the end of day you can flag the kite on any single line tensioned so in a pinch after you release if it doesn’t flag on the 2 line either you can climb the safety until you reach V and wind only one of the line until kite flag out. Either way if you are in dangerous situation don’t forget that once you release kite you still have option to release the leash so make sure you have it in the hand if it’s hooked on the handle pass

That’s an older design, where it release on 2 center line instead of 1, the new system from that brand is on 1 line release now. Though there can still be freak accident where lines get stuck through harness hook... Also in usual conditions 15 to 25 knots wouldn’t have been so bad. I had a lot of room so decided to wait it out a bit before releasing the leash...
